Week 28

When I started to write the blog earlier this week, it was going to be meaningful and heartfelt. Then I spent the last few days trying to manage a sciatica flare-up and just couldn’t get to it. Instead, I’ll show you a few photos from my new home.

Part of the process of moving into a furnished apartment in France is to go through the inventory in detail to document all the flaws. It’s for the protection of the renter but, for some reason, it set me off into a real funk. For a few days, I saw only the flaws and I wondered if I had made a big mistake.

Two weeks later, I’m slowly making it my own and have fallen back in love with it. I’m so fortunate to have landed here! The apartment is one of a handful in a building that was built at the end of the 16th century as a private mansion. I love the details, both in the original and in the restoration.

My apartment overlooks a quiet courtyard.
Most people here hang their laundry to dry. I love being able to do that outside.
I bought this jug last fall and wondered what to do with it. It’s found the perfect home in a little nook on my balcony.
I love the decorative touches, like this rustic wooden door for the bathroom in the spare bedroom.
Between my bedroom and the entrance is a wrought iron window with ornate wooden shutters.
My reading corner, with the beautiful little table I bought last week.

I lay on the floor quite a bit this week because it helped ease the pain. This song ran through my head.

À bientôt .

Love the look of your new home, Sue. The place I stay every yesr in Pezenas was built in 1660. Imagine if those walls could talk!
I’ve had sciatica twice. It’s so painful but the good thing is that it eventually goes away. Hope yours doesn’t last too long.

  2. Your place looks wonderful, and so sunny. I can see you sitting at your table on the deck enjoying a cup of coffee every morning……what a lovely way to start your day. I hope you recover soon.

  3. How incredible. It must be like living in a storybook. Your jug is in the perfect place! I love all the textures—wood, stone, and iron—and the stories they must tell from over the centuries. And to top it off, a balcony and a courtyard. How divine!

Feel better soon. I’m sorry you are having all that pain.

  4. Hey Sue – I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been suffering with sciatica – that truly sucks. May it pass quickly….. love the photos of your new digs in which you will spend the days in your own way! (I love Ray Lamontagne.) Big hugs.

  5. Hello Sue
Beautiful photos of the jar in the niche and your reading corner. Did you get the lovely ‘little table from Mr. Çalet?
Hope you sciatica dissappears and that you finally found the right place for your future life in Pézenas. Good luck!
