Week 42

I’ve had another quiet week. I joined a gym, spent time on my balcony and started to discover more of the countryside around Pézenas. Life is good.

I don’t have much to talk about in this post, but I have some beautiful photos to share as well as a song that goes way back to my high school years. It was one of my favourite songs – if only I’d known then that I would make it through many rainy days and would one day live in the south of France!

One of the factors in my decision about where to live after retirement was that I needed to get out of the city. I loved the conveniences of living in my condo in downtown Toronto, but my soul craved nature.

I always enjoyed going out with my camera in Toronto – it wasn’t hard to find beauty. The way the light bounced off office tower windows, the sun setting at the end of King Street, sailboats on the lake.

And now I get to focus on more organic beauty. This week, I took a long walk in the countryside outside of Pézenas. Vineyards, mountains and horses. Trees growing out of abandoned buildings. And more poppies!

As I walked, I was struck again by how different my life is now. I have fewer conveniences but I’m so happy with my simple life. And check out the nature that’s on my doorstep!

As further proof that I’m not in Toronto, I bought a lemon tree a couple of months ago. It’s supposed to have at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. I don’t think it’s getting quite enough, but the lemons are growing!

Ahhh – who doesn’t love a little Barry Manilow? I’ve always loved this song, with its message of hope, its key change and its dramatic, then fading finish. We dreamers have our ways …

À bientôt .

  1. As always your photographs are beautiful and I must admit I am excited about your growing lemon tree! lol. Reading your posts has become a welcome Saturday morning routine that I look forward to. Glad all is well in your world.

  2. Bonjour, Sue I agree with your friend above, you have become part of Saturday morning that I look forward to…in a week, we’ll be in the same country. A lovely tribute to Carver is being planned in Normandy. I’m signed up to do a bicycle ride in the the vineyards of Champagne Country…maybe, next year to Provence to see you in Pezenas. Your photos are lovely. Bonne journée, Marianne

  3. Beautiful pictures and one of my favourite Barry Manilow songs……so looking forward to being back in Pezenas in September!

  4. Bonjour Sue. Merci!
