The Fullness of Life

Slowly, thoughtfully, I’m getting there. I submitted another design for my tapestry this week and received more valuable feedback.

I pulled way back on the details for this version and chose images depicting the growth of a small child – small in stature, energy, spirit – into a flourishing woman who embraces life. I added a gradient of colour to signify an emotional journey that gets lighter and brighter as I age.

I love this image, but it needs to change. I’m told the gradient of colour will present an interesting challenge for the weavers, and they are up for it! But the figures will be difficult to weave on a grid.

So – back to the drawing board.

My original intent was to reflect the bright and dark threads that weave across my story. The gradient is there – yes – but it’s been far from smooth as the image depicts. Maybe that’s why I turn away from it?

I’ve always loved the idea that, when you can only see dark threads, you have to trust that if you were able to look down on the loom, you’d see they are only part of the story. The bright threads reappear and, together with the dark, add depth and energy to your story.

Dark threads, bright threads, the fullness of life.

Stay tuned.
